may be coincidence but when air conditioning had been running and then turned off, strong smell cigarette smoke in bedroom.telephoned reception as i had booked a non smoking room but they were disinterested and said i was in non smoking hotel despite my assurances that as a non smoker, i was only too aware that someone was smoking very close-by. no resolution from hotel.staff rating suffers as result of this!

My only complaint was that the receptionist tried to offer me two singles when I had booked a twin.It was eventually resolved to my satisfaction.

Top Tip
Visit Trattoria La Batdigiana, the Italian restaurant round the corner beside the Russell Square tube station. Great food and reasonable prices.

The single room was small and poorly ventilated. As the room was warm, I found the air con too noisy at night, whilst the noise of the hotel's air con/ kitchens etc outside was too noisy to open the window. Result a poor night's sleep. Fine hotel. Good friendly staff. Super breakfast

The hotel is very striking in looks, is spacious inside and had very friendly and helpful staff.Food was delicious and plentiful with attentive waiters.Our bedroom was smallish with a very comfortable bed and good shower room. We were very pleased with the hotel.

Inevitably large hotels have noisy infrastructure -- flow of water through pipes -- humming from electrical equipment which can make it difficult to sleep. Also, summer quilts might help as you can get too hot at night.A very minor comment but the hotel said we were only booked for continental breakfast and to upgrade to full English was £1 each. In the event two of our party were charged only the first day. I guess we should have relied on the booking which said room and breakfast and insisted that it included full breakfast - however the cost of upgrade was not expensive and not a problem.
Top Tip
Suggest drivers park next door in the Imperial which is open to th epublic . As 24 hour parking seeems to range from £28 ( NCP) to £18 in the Imperial.
