Originally designed by architect Sir Edwin Lutyens for the Young Women's Christian Association in the early 1930s, the Jurys Great Russell Street Hotel is housed in an imposing neo-Georgian building. The spacious lobby’s lofty ceilings and tall windows lend it a light, airy atmosphere upon arrival. It is attractively appointed with a mixture of dark and light wood fittings and offers plenty of sofas and chairs for residents to relax in. The 163 guestrooms are decorated in a warm, traditional style, with striped bedspreads and light wood furnishings. All are clean and decently maintained, as are the en suite bathrooms. The hotel’s restaurant, "Lutyens," serves contemporary cuisine, while the wood-panelled “Lutyens Bars” has the feel of a private club, making it a welcome retreat at the end of the day. This is an upscale property aimed at corporate travellers during the week and leisure travellers on the weekend, when rates drop considerably.
